1999 Junior Olympic Dedication
The 1999 Junior Olympics were
dedicated to the memory of Daniel. Below is an excerpt from the
dedication written by Wendy Neal, Director of Competition:
"In one of Dan's friends' writings,
he opened with a quote from T.E. Lawrence: 'All people dream: but
not equally, those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their
minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the
dreamers of the day are dangerous people, for they may act their
dreams with open eyes to make it possible.' Daniel was a dreamer and
his eyes were wide open with passion and glory. As you compete
here at the J3 Olympics keep the spirit of Daniel with you, and in
his friends' words, 'Dream with your eyes wide open.'"
